This is not a Broadway album…my diving headfirst into the music of Stephen Sondheim was nothing I took lightly. In fact,
it took me more than 6 years to take a deep breath and commit to this project. His music is much more than just songs, they are portals within his brilliant shows. They carry the characters forward along with the story. Well, this was a bit of a challenge and daunting adventure since I was choosing songs that would somehow stand on their own, without the show surrounding them. Thus, the “rearranging”.The journey became something peculiar and something unfamiliar…as the music took on a life of it’s own with the pure artistry of my otherworldly musicians and their phenomenal (re)arrangements. So I just jumped onboard and we soared into unknown waters. Spontaneous Sondheim could have been the title as well…( maybe the follow up CD?) But the line from “Sunday” in Sunday In The Park With George,..”through arrangements of shadows” haunted me. So to take that thought and where the songs took me, I felt “reArrangements Of Shadows” was a joining together of nine beautiful songs with a slightly peripatetic approach traveling down an uncharted path. So, forgive me all you Broadway babies and please enjoy the ride… all my love and admiration to Mr. Sondheim.
