Famed conguero and vocalist Louie Cruz Beltran returns to Upstairs at Vitello’s on Sunday, July 22 nd with his dynamic blend of Afro Cuban rhythms, jazz, Latin jazz, pop, R&B and originals. Louie has shared the stage with legends Natalie Cole, Gladys
Knight, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson, among many more. At the 34th Annual Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl Louie made a huge impact. To quote Richard Ginell of Variety “the Louie Cruz Beltran Jazz Ensemble was the unexpected
triumph of the day. This music is why the Playboy Jazz Festival was created!”

Performingartslive.com praised Louie’s “…percolating percussion, catchy refrains and fiery arrangements….” OCWeekly said “Louie and his band are stunners, mixing Afro-Cuban rhythms and R &B influences that will move and dazzle you…a passion for playing music…check out Beltran’s fiery percussion skills.” Louie’s critically acclaimed CD “Paint the Rhythm” features an all star line up of some of the most exciting and
recognized names in Latin Jazz, including Abraham Laboriel, Poncho Sanchez, Giovani Hidalgo, Hubert Laws, Justo Almario, Peter Michael Escovedo, and more. His sold out first CD “It’s My Time” has just been reissued.

This year Louie was proud to represent Latin jazz to close out Jazz Appreciation Month through the Smithsonian Institution on the National Mall, followed by two shows at famed Blues Alley in Washington, DC. His popular solo interactive percussion seminar
“Roots and Rhythm” is in great demand at branch libraries throughout the Los Angeles County Library system.

Louie has a loyal following and a reputation for delivering a fun, high-energy show. He always hosts a great party! In venues large and small, Louie connects with the audience with humor, solid musicianship and dazzling percussion work.
