The Jazz Cartel
The Jazz Cartel
The Frank Sinatra/Michael Bublé styled band The Jazz Cartel, formed by lead singer, composer and songwriter Curtis Parry, got its start in 2011 at a restaurant called Twin Palms in Pasadena which used to be owned by famous actor and director Kevin Costner.

The first version of The Jazz Cartel included tenor sax player Kyle O’Donnell, internet famous Paul “The Trombonist” Nowell and Maurice Ellis Of Meaghan Traynor fame. They continued on playing all around Los Angeles at various restaurants, jazz clubs, hotels, weddings, corporate events, swing dances and more until Curtis decided to beef up the band from a 5 to a 9 piece which included organ, bass, drums, trumpet, trombone, alto, tenor and bari sax with lead vocals.

While playing in another band, Curtis met upright bass player and partner in crime Jonathan “Fizzo” Frias and drummer Shaun Valentine. The three joined forces together with original members Kyle O’Donnell, Paul Nowell and added the amazingly talented sax players Jeremy Lappitt, Mike Reznick, smokin’ lead trumpet player Blake Martin with amazing Hammond B3 organ player Carey Frank and ultra famous guitarist James Achor of Royal Crown Revue and created an incredible combination of some of L.A.’s top musicians.

The band quickly got into the studio and recorded their “First album” of original songs and arrangements with special guests the incredibly talented trombonist Phil Menchaca and Brett MacDonald on alto. The Jazz Cartel is extremely excited to play all the songs on their first album as well as some familiar American Songbook standards and unique arrangements such as “Pure Imagination” from Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and “Bella Notte” from Disney’s Lady and The Tramp. This truly is going to be a memorable and enjoyable celebration of music and friendship.
